Gynaecomastia/Male Breast Reduction


Introduction:
Enlarged male breasts are known as gynecomastia. It can cause emotional discomfort and impair self- confidence. It is characterized by:

• Excess localized fat
• Excess glandular tissue development
• A combination of both excess fat and glandular tissue.
Gynecomastia may be unilateral (one breast) or bilateral (both breasts). It can be surgically treated by removing excess fat, glandular tissue and/or skin. The result is a better proportioned more masculine-contoured upper body and the freedom and self-confidence to lead an active life.

Anaesthesia:

      1. Normally Local anesthesia
      2. Occasionally general anaesthesia

Steps:

Male breast reduction is performed with either liposuction, excision, or a combination of both.Procedural steps: Surgical removal of excess tissue is performed by excision and/or liposuction. This procedure can include areola reduction. Liposuction is performed using MICRO-CANNULAS, inserted through small incisions. Various excision techniques are used for excision of glandular/fibrous tissue. The incision is placed around the areola. If areolar reduction is require, it can be performed in the same procedure.

Recovery:

The swelling reduces in 4 – 6 weeks. Final results is visible in about 2 – 4 months. Any significant weight gain can reverse the results. The post operative garment should be used for 4 – 6 weeks post-operatively.
